Donald Trump’s aides seem to have given him one line and one line only of the latest poll from Quinnipiac University. In the poll, a 39 percent plurality of voters give Trump an “F” grade for his first year, 17 percent give him a “D,” and “A” and “B” combine for just 32 percent. His job approval is just 36 percent, and 57 percent of voters say he is not fit to serve as president. But—and here’s where that theory that he only knows about one line of the poll comes in—Trump is brag-tweeting about it. Because, well …

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders got in on it, tweeting that “America has turned a corner under the President’s strong leadership.” Small problem, guys:

But 49 percent of voters say former President Barack Obama is more responsible for the state of the economy, while 40 percent say Trump is more responsible.

That means 40 percent of people are giving Trump credit he doesn’t deserve, but it’s still not exactly bragging material. Sanders, of course, probably does know what the rest of the poll says, but she has two audiences to fool: Trump, whose pathological narcissism needs to be fed, and the voters who will only hear about the poll at all if White House bragging can propel that one line into the headlines. So let’s offer some real headline news from this: America gives Donald Trump an “F.” Strong majority of voters say Donald Trump isn’t fit to serve as president. President Obama still responsible for strong economy, America says.
