Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York joined an estimated 1,000 people rallying in support of permanent protections for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, saying at a demonstration in front of the White House that “we are a nation that builds from many … we are here to make sure that all TPS recipients become permanent members of the United States of America.”
Without permanent protections from Congress, hundreds of thousands of TPS beneficiaries could get deported back to the dangerous conditions they fled from in the first place. Like Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, some TPS recipients have lived here for decades now, and have built families and homes. “We are fighting for the longstanding principle,” Ocasio-Cortez continued, “that the people who built this country, stay in this country.”
Call your member of Congress today at (202) 224-3121 and ask them to defend TPS recipients now.
