Roger Stone, the former Trump campaign staffer and longtime friend of Donald Trump, is once again taking center stage in the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. During the campaign, Stone appeared on InfoWars to let viewers know WikiLeaks was about to drop the goods on Hillary Clinton. From CNN:

On the August 4, 2016, InfoWars show, Stone described the soon-to-appear WikiLeaks disclosures. He also mentioned that he spoke with then-Republican nominee Donald Trump on August 3 — the day before the interview. InfoWars is a fringe media outlet run by Alex Jones, who is known for spreading conspiracy theories.

Stone wrote to former Trump adviser Sam Nunberg on August 4, 2016, that he had dinner with Assange the night before, according to a source familiar with the email exchange. The email was first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Monday. The Journal also reported that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining the exchange.

Stone later denied any meeting, saying he was merely “joking” about the dinner with Assange. It has been confirmed that Stone was privately communicating with the WikiLeaks account via direct messages on Twitter. Now Robert Mueller’s team has issued subpoenas to Stone’s social media director. From US News & World Report:

The subpoenas were delivered late last week to lawyers representing Jason Sullivan, a social media and Twitter specialist Stone hired to work for an independent political action committee he set up to support Trump, Knut Johnson, a lawyer for Sullivan, told Reuters on Tuesday.

According to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation, Mueller also has been probing whether anyone associated with the Trump campaign may have helped Assange or the Russians time or target the release of hacked emails and other social media promoting Trump or critical of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

A spokesman for Mueller declined to comment. Russia has denied interfering in the election. President Trump has repeatedly denied his campaign colluded with Russia.

Sullivan told Reuters that he heads Cyphoon.com, a social media firm, and “worked on the Trump campaign serving as Chief Strategist directly to Roger J. Stone Jr.”

Was Roger Stone the conduit between the Trump campaign, WikiLeaks and the Russian hacking of the DNC? We may find out sooner than later.
