The numbers just keep getting worse for Donald Trump, and late Wednesday, his favorite propaganda arm released some disquieting polling for him. A majority of registered voters, 51%, support both the impeachment and the removal of Trump from office. That’s up 9 points from Fox’s July poll. Yowzer. Another 4% say he should be impeached, but they don’t support removal (though it’s worth noting that this cohort is likely persuadable on removal). And only 40% say he should not be impeached at all, down from 45% in July.
What’s interesting is that the finding of majority support for Trump’s removal from office isn’t a total outlier. Sure, most polls are now finding majority support for the impeachment inquiry, including 58% in the Washington Post-Schar School poll, 55% in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, and 52% in the NPR/PBS/Marist poll, all released this week.
But the Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday also found 50% support for both impeachment and removal of Trump. So perhaps the Fox and Politico polls are leading indicators of where the public is heading. Certainly, we shall find out.
Naturally, Trump carved time out of his busy tweet schedule Thursday to skewer the new Fox News poll. “From the day I announced I was running for President, I have NEVER had a good @FoxNews Poll. Whoever their Pollster is, they suck,” he tweeted. Classy!
