After Veep‘s Peter MacNicol was disqualified as a guest acting Emmy nominee for appearing in more than half of the HBO comedy’s episodes, the TV Academy has announced his replacement: Girls‘ Peter Scolari.
The nomination means that Scolari, who plays Lena Dunham’s father Tad in the HBO comedy, was the actor who initially garnered the most votes without receiving a nomination. It also marks the only nom this year for the Lena Dunham-created series, which will air its final season in 2017.
Veteran character actor MacNicol had earned an Emmy nomination earlier this month for his role as Jonah’s (Timothy Simmons) politically influential uncle on Veep, but his nomination was rescinded by the Academy of Television and Arts and Sciences yesterday.
