Watch the Alternate Ending to 'Juice'

Tupac made his big-screen acting debut 25 years ago portraying troubled Harlem teen Bishop in the movie Juice. The film, which also starred Omar Epps, turns 25 this week and a special edition DVD has been released to commemorate the occasion. Besides interviews with the filmmakers and behind-the-scenes footage, the DVD also has an alternate ending to the film in which Bishop makes a drastically different choice.

In the original ending, Bishop plunges to his death after a brutal fight with Q, his childhood friend. In the just-released alternate take, Bishop hears police sirens in the distance and chooses to let go of Q’s hand rather than climb back to safety and face a life of imprisonment.

Director Ernest R. Dickerson explained, “He hears the cops coming and he stops struggling and he looks in Q’s eyes and he says, ‘I’m not going to jail.” He adds, “He’d rather die than go to jail. It was just an attitude that showed that Bishop wasn’t a punk. He was a force that really had to be reckoned with in the right way.”
